Due to a variety of social and financial reasons, there are children available for adoption from Guatemala. The children are mostly infants, with some toddlers and school age children available. The average age of the children at the time of their adoption is 6 -12 months. It may take less time to adopt a male child. Please refer to the Qualifications section.
In Guatemala, women make the difficult decision to place their child for adoption. This decision often stems from a lack of financial resources to parent their child. The women sign a voluntary consent to the adoption of their child. Infants are cared for in individual foster homes; while there are some small group homes and orphanages within Guatemala.
The children from Guatemala are mostly a mixture of Spanish, Indian and French. The children are beautiful and they are truly a gift to those who choose to adopt them. While the children are generally healthy it is important to remember that children adopted internationally may have physical or developmental delays, colds, rashes etc. While every child is different, most of these children flourish once placed with their adoptive family.
