1. Orientation: We invite you to meet with an agency representative to discuss the process of adopting from Russia in detail. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about children available and the process and policies of the Russian Federation, the Agency and BCIS (formerly INS).
2. Application to Family Tree Adoption Agency (FTAA): FTAA will review your application to insure you meet state requirements in addition to the qualifications required by the Russian Federation. Upon application approval, the home study will be initiated.
3. Dossier Requirement: Yes
4. Review of Dossier and Submission to Russia: FTAA will review your dossier for New York State applicants. The dossier is then submitted in accordance with the requirements of Russia and is translated in the country of Russia.
5. Travel Approval, and First Trip to Select the Child: Once the dossier has been received and approved in Russia, families will be invited to travel to Russia to select their child. Travel usually occurs very soon after the government has approved the families dossier. Travel time may vary from 3-5 days to 9-11 days depending on the region.
6. Second Trip to Russia: The second trip to Russia will be to finalize the adoption and bring your child home with you!
7. Post Placement Supervision: We recognize the importance of post placement support and we will visit you approximately between the 3rd and 4th months and 9th-10th months from your return home. The reports are translated, apostilled and submitted to Russia. The Agency will also visit you in the second and third year of your placement. Post Placement Reports are a requirement of the Russian Federation and all families are required to authenticate and seal the reports before submitting them to the agency along with pictures of your child.
8. Agreement to Register the Child with the Consular Office of the Russian Federation
Family Tree Adoption Agency hereby agrees to require families who have adopted children who are citizens of the Russian Federation to register the child with the Russian Consulate, located in New York City in the United States within 3 months from their arrival into the United States.
The adoptive families shall submit the following documents to the Russian Consulate:
1. Application for registration of the adopted child along with 2 photographs of the child
2. Certificate of adoption
3. Identification documents of the adoptive parents and child
Family Tree Adoption Agency will be obligated to provide this information to the adoptive parents about registering the adoptive child in the Russian Consulate after the arrival into the United States and to report information about registration in Russian Consulate to authorities in the Russian Organization.
9. Your Child’s Citizenship: Obtaining proof of citizenship and social security is necessary for your child. FTAA will assist you with information on obtaining a U.S. adoption decree.
